A great lens when combined with the E 620. Good for distant landscape, portrait and Macro. I have 4 other lenses and this is the one I leave on the camera.
I wanted a lens to replace my once very expensive, but now long out of date, huge and heavy, 90mm Elicar macro. Twenty years and more ago that was superb, but despite being remarkably small and light, the Olympus 50mm f2 ED macro lens gives a similar view, and with AF and modern lens technology, as far as I can tell, performs at an even higher level. It is really well built (in Japan - and you don't often see that these days!) Pictures are razor-sharp and distortion-free corner to corner. It was only having used this lens, stopped down, on a solid tripod, that I fully appreciated the extreme powers of resolution of which the E-3 camera is capable. The 50/f2 also makes a brilliant portrait lens, with very useful depth-of-field, but don't expect any soft focus flattery!
This lens falls in the "Pro" category of the Olympus 4/3rd lenses and fits all 4/3rd Olympus and other 4/3 Cameras. Being 50mm it translates to 100mm in 4/3rd terms. It is an f.2.0 lens, so is very bright. 4/3 lenses have better depth of field at lower f stops, so you can shoot at lower values and still get reasonable depth of field. The lens gives very sharp images, and for it's price it is the true gem in the range. I love everything about this lens, build quality, the fact that it is, dust and showerproof (like the E-3 Camera). I went away from Olympus to other brands, but I felt I was paying so much for camera and lenses, that didn't give as good results. So I came back to Olympus using eBay. The first item I bought, as you have guessed, was the 'Little Gem". I hadn't even bought a camera at that time, other than the fact, I have an Olympus E-1, that I love to bits and would never sell. The lens went straight on to the E-1, for "testing" purposes. Bearing in mind the E-1 is only 5 megapixels I got some great macro shots straight away. Sharp and detailed. This was a great find on eBay and had been well looked after. You will never regret buying one if you have a 4/3rd Camera. Gem of a Macro lens. Generally an all round lens, even for everyday use.Read full review
I have a Panasonic DMC-L1 DSLR camera which has a four-thirds mount which came packaged with a great Leica 14-50mm lens. This lens is great but even the best lenses can't cope brilliantly with every photo opportunity that is thrown at it (especially with my photographic skills!) However Panasonic aren't exactly throwing a multitude of Leica lenses onto the market - I have been waiting for their latest offering (14-150mm)to hit the UK market for nearly 6 months now since its launch but to no avail so I looked around for other four-third mount lenses that might be compatible with my camera. I wanted a good quality lens that wouldn't break the bank. I needed a more powerful zoom lens and also a 'portrait' lens and I chose this lens to fill the 'portrait' lens gap in my collection and so far I haven't been disappointed. The lens has a satisfyingly chunky weight to it without going overboard and it fitted easily onto my camera. It focuses quickly on the subject and gives me a good clear image - my attempts at using it at a recent surprise 70th birthday party with just the inbuilt camera flash resulted in several fairly flattering shots which may mean I avoid the lynching mob I normally face. I've also used some low cost magnifying lenses which I also bought on Ebay with the lens and have managed to take several creditable close-up shots of some still-life garden 'arrangements'. The lens was supplied by a very professional eBayer - the product was packaged well and delivered really quickly, the overall experience has been very good indeed.Read full review
