You get some plastic mouldings to form the pit, plus sets of steps and some plates. Also, four lengths of nickel silver rail to slide into the pit sides for the locos to run on to go over the pit. I could not work out how one could join these lengths in pairs; join the lengths before fitting them to the pit and the joiner won't slide along, can't (or at least I couldn't) get the joiner in place after sliding in the rails. In the end I binned the rails supplied, took the sleepers off some flexible track and slid the un-sleepered track onto the pit sides.
