The GX8 is a worthy successor to the GX7 and features several worthwhile improvements. The body, which is a little larger than that of the GX7 feels more substantial and is now weatherproofed and the larger grip improves handling for those with relatively large hands. The electronic viewfinder is larger than that of the GX7 with a 4.3 vs 16.9 aspect ratio and is of much better quality (OLED vs LCD) and is a welcome upgrade. The rear screen which is now articulated rather than tiltable on the GX7 has also been upgraded to OLED from LCD giving improved screen image quality. Naturally it is a touch screen, but I always disable this feature as it is not necessarily appropriate for landscape work so am unable to comment on it’s performance in this respect. There is a slight issue with the articulated screen in that if a remote is plugged into the body movement of the screen is limited. The GX8 has a new, larger sensor – the first 20 Mp sensor in M4/3 CSC’s. Image quality is excellent especially when the camera is fitted with either of the Lumix f2.8 zooms, but whether or not the extra megapixels are significant is debateable. To date I have not evaluated the performance in terms of noise at higher ISO’s. I don't shoot video, nor do I need the wifi facility, but those are all part of the package. All in all a worthwhile upgrade – weatherproofing of the body is particularly significant when used primarily for landscape work in conjunction with the weatherproofed f2.8 zoom lenses.Read full review
