This 1990 documentary chronicles the New York's Harlem drag balls in the late 80's, which created the concept of "vogueing" - shortly copied by Madonna – among other things. It shows an honest insight into the lives of poor Black & Latino gay youth from New York. While most of the society was living the yuppie bubble, these disenchanted teenagers (some extremely young) and men use the ball culture as their source of social & family identities as well as dreams of stardom. They found a place in the balls to celebrate their sexual, social & racial identities without fear & prejudice. It is painful to see that such vibrant, colourful, creative and beautiful individuals are gone and consumed by a heartless and judgmental society.
