I 'standardised' on the Psion 3 range nearly 20 years ago, upgrading from the 3A to a 3C then the 3MX. Now obsolescent, but in my opinion a very versatile machine, offering many of the facilities of a PC, with solid state plug-ins for backup and a comms link. I like the reasonable size keyboard. Unfortunately the ribbon cables are not very robust, professional repairs are expensive and I have not been very successful in diy repairs, so I have tended to buy one on Ebay when necessary - the last one was the fourth and the best! (Anyone got any good diy repair instructions?) I tried a Jornada - did not like the stylus system, which is used on many other PDAs. Having built up a database of 700+ names etc, a diary, many documents and spreadsheets, I don't know where else to go. I would like to transfer the database to my iPhone, but this is probably impracticable. It is a pity that Psion gave up making PDAs.Read full review
I was absolutely delighted to get another Psion 3mx as I have had Psions for a very long time and my previous 3mx died and I wanted another one. They had stopped making them some time ago and if they were still in production I would have bought another one but as they had stopped, I looked on ebay for another one and was so pleased to find one in such good condition. My everyday life and records are all kept on the palmtop and it does so many other things that I don't intend to bore you with. Perhaps I ought to tell what else is on the 3mx so here we go : 41 'data' files and some of them have quite of lot other files to do with the same subject each, my 'agenda' and appointments with alarms to remind me, 'Time' with ability to wake me with alarms, 'World' with an image of the world and it can tell me about anywhere what the time is there and the code to phone that country and how far it is from here, a 'calculator 'that has an advanced scientific one as well, a spread sheet, a jotter, a spell checker, a game of patience, another one called 'Files', a capability to record voices and music, then a programme called OPL , a capability to telephone by holding the back of it while next to the mouthpiece of a phone with the telephone number of a person's details in my 'data' and last but not least, an infra red capability to send messages to another Psion machine. So, all in all, it is an amazing piece of equipment without which I would be lost for any info I need.Read full review
the Psion Series 3MX is good product easy to use .Good design. but its a little bit heavy and has no many applications compare to others . thank you farido
Easy to use. Reliable. Lightweight. I already have four in my office and have been using this product for many years.
These are excellent PDA's, they do exactly what they are suppose to do and the battery lasts for ages, I use mine mainly for the terminal app which I can write and run custom triggering apps for, but it still make a great PDA and portable word processor, here are some of the Pro's and Con's of owning one of these devices. Pros: 1) Lightweight & Portable 2) Reliable and can be backed up on the fly to SSD Cards 3) Battery efficient 4) Highly customisable & programmable 5) Word-processor & Spread sheet capability Cons: 1) SSD Cards are expensive and hard to get. 2) Would be great if it could handle battery charging of rechargeable. 3) No longer in production (parts are hard to get) 4) Can suffer display problems (cable failures), althogh tougher than the 5mx Overall the device is great and handles most of what you can throw at it, a word of warning though when buying from eBay make sure you ask questions about the plastic bits like the top case (LCD plastic suffer from micro fractures), battery cover (broken or cracked), battery leaks and hinging mechanism (cracked or sticking), as I have found after buying that the quality of these vary and a seller saying good or fair condition is not exactly as fair as you might expect it to be. Overall a great PDA and if used with the SSD Card it can be very robust at storing data.Read full review
