Pared down versions of his greatest ( subjective that one anyway ) songs - just him and a piano - almost certainly how he wrote them originally. If you're a fan you already love these songs, so the inevitable sparesness on the low production renditions won't bother and will open up new nuances to old favourites. Jackson Browne,s solo acoustic albums fall into exactly the same genre - I wonder if their success influenced Mr. Newman to try the same approach?. These guys - Randy Newman, James Taylor & Jackson Browne have a songwriting pedigree and a body of work behind them let alone their distinctive voices that makes me wonder why anyone bothers to listen to James Blunt et al when dipping into the old albums of these guys is so much more satisfying.
