A Keats book fell into my hands and I wondered why I have never read his works before. The Eve of St Agnes is about love and the mystic superstitions and how to find true love, of course the man (Porphyro) gets what he wants I am not so sure the the woman(Madeline) did despite everything she did was what St Agnes requires. All his poetry has very deep meanings because of the way his imagination developed whilst writing. Every time I re-read or study his works about the ancient Gods I begin to understand what he was trying to develop. We all read into poetry what our imagination allows us to see. Firstly there is his beautiful use of language, then there is the meaning that you read, then there is an underlying meaning, and how his imagination led him to interpret it. Then my imagination leads me on to read what I want to in it - a bit like James Joyce and his book Essays. He definitely is one of my favourites along with Shakespeare and Chaucer. However, be prepared to look names and what they did in ancient Greece up to help you fully appreciate his poetry - do not be put off - his poetry is mind blowing and so beautifulRead full review
