I initially purchased one of these to see how it would perform, I was very pleasantly surprised. The Build quality is excellent and its fairly thin and not obtrusive at all. When I first tested it, I thought it was really quiet and thought it could have done with some more volume, however, I then noticed that the front of the device had a film of plastic protection over it, once I peeled this off, it was much louder. The Software for the device is actually on the device and when you plug it into your PC, it shows up a a CD rom, run the executable and then you are presented with a window allowing you to delete the original chimes and replace them with whatever MP3 you want. A word of advise, keep the ringtones fairly short, you don’t want a doorbell to be going off for 2 minutes. After the initial test, I was so impressed that I purchased another two of these items, one for upstairs and one for the summer house at the end of the Garden, I wired up the button in parallel to all three chimers and they work perfectly. All in all an excellent product for such a small price. If I had a niggle, and I haven’t really, it would have been nice to be able to use a mains supply unit for it to save changing the batteries once a year. Lol Definitely recommend if you fancy something other than the standard chimes. By the way, you can have up to 8 differnet chimes recorded and select whatever one takes your fancy, very easy to change, buy using a button on the back of the device. Read full review

First one received did not interface with my computer, however the replacement worked well. The software editing feature is crude but works.

It's a doorbell and it plays MP3 files. It's also pretty cheap (although in my case the delivery cost 4 times the price of the box itself) Powered by batteries or an external transformer, so it's not a drop-in replacement for an existing powered doorbell. I have yet to see how long the batteries will last, but don't expect it to be an issue. The box is hang on a wall on a single nail, so if your wires going to the bell button happen to be rigid it might be tricky to get the box to sit flush with the wall. USB connector is at the back, and so are the buttons for switching ringtone or volume, so any change to what the chime sounds like requires removing it from the wall and possibly disconnecting from the button. The software for changing ringtones is ancient and runs only on Windows, but is easy enough to get hang of.Read full review

Siemens Wired Wall Mounted Recordable MP3 Door Bell (JSJS-315), is a discontinued model of bells produced by Siemens, programmed by a usb input via pc. Speaker of high quality for a chime. It is a electronic chime and not electromechanical. It is loud and clear. The loudness is adjusted by a small button in the rear part of chime also the melodies (8 choices of melody). The chime works with 2 C type batteries (always connected). The chime is actioned by short-circuiting 2 contacts in the rear via a Bell button without illumination. It can work with 9volt AC power supply but not the electronic system, only the buttons electrical circuit (Is good for long distances between button and chime and light gage of wires).

What a find. Bought to replace my 5 year old Friedland chime that had started to fall to bits inside. This Siemens unit is solidly built, a pleasing neutral design, simple to set up and comes with 8 pre installed "tunes". My favourite by far was "Westminster chimes". Easy to adjust the volume and set up. The sound of the chimes is very realistic and clear. It is possible to delete the sounds that are pre installed and install your own, but I decided what it came with was really very good as they were. It is powered by two "C" cells, which should be big enough to keep it active for a good period. I'd recommend this unit to anyone wanting a nice sounding, solidly built, battery powered door chime. At under £5 it was a complete bargain, at twice that figure it would still very easily be a "good buy".Read full review
