Having had my camera and lens stolen I replaced both and the lens i chose was the sigma 18 200 which is a terrific walk around lenses giving the reach for zoom work q=and wide angle for landscapes/architectural images. Its a great all round lense
Very good product. It´s easy to handle. The price quality ratio is very good when comparing to other brands. It´s perfect for everybody that is starting in Photography. In order to get the best pictures with the max zoom, you really need to have a tripod, beause this lens is very sensitive to movements
Well pleased just what my gradaugher wanted
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned

This is not a pro range lens. For normal use like myself, the range provided by this lens is very good other than the fact that the 200mm is not quite '200mm' when comparing with the nikkor 18-200mm VR (I was lucky enough to have my friend around, who has the nikkor 18-200mm VR when making this comparison for this brief review). Pros The barrel effect is less than the nikkor (surprisingly enough). It has a metal mount and generally a better build than its nikon counterpart. The macro is slightly better as you can actually get closer to the object than the nikkor. It's by far more affordable (if you are like me having a limited budget). The OS does 'exactly what it said on the tin' than in some other reviews where the 'OS only helps slowing down 1-2 stops on shutter speed'. The OS on this Sigma performed at the same level as the nikkor even under low lights. Personally I think the Sigma looks better than the nikkor =p Uses less bettery life with OS turned on than the VR on the nikkor (about 50 extra shots with the Sigma on my D40, new battery full charged, no flash, AF at all times@200mm, ISO 200) Cons The arrangements of the AF, OS and Zoomlock buttons are too close and I ended up turning off the OS while trying to switch back from AF to MF... You can't manually adjust the focus ring in AF mode (I know this is kind of obvious but in my other AF lenses, this is possible) At 200mm, there are dark corners when there's not enough light. I think between 50-100mm the AF focus is soft. The Zoomlock can only put on at 18mm (I hope it's not just mine that does that). Slower AF focusing than the nikkor, especially with OS turned on. Images from this lens are generally slightly yellow at all conditions. All in all, fantastic lens for the money (I bought it for 200GBP) and as good as the nikkor 18-200mm VR apart from the slightly slower AF focusing, in some aspect, better than the nikkor, most importantly the barrel effect side. Be careful though, make sure you know where the lens' origin is before you buy, ask for the s/n and check it out with Sigma UK as you will not be covered by the warrenty if it's from outside UK... Another problem, mine went wrong after using for 2000+ shots and the Sigma UK told me that mine's from outside UK and there's a part needs changing and charged me for about 65GBP for inspection, parts, repair and return delivery, friendly, professional service. If you managed to get a problem free one, it's lovely little lens that you wouldn't want to replace from the body if you are on holiday, like you holiday-mode kit-lens shall I say; I hope all these craps did some help if you cannot yet decide between the two =0)Read full review
