This macro lens is a bit of a strange animal. First of all, the AF doesnt work and despite the aperture ring having 2.8 to 32, it has to be locked out at 32 permanently. Why does it even have this option? Despite these 2 problems which really dont concern me too much since I am using it for Macro work, and the AF having reports of being slow, I dont actually require the AF and the settings within the D3000 allow me to select f2.8 anyhow. I have found the lens to be accurate and allows for sharp details for capturing the little world. Would I buy this lens again, Yes I would. Its a good price and an essential piece of glass for keen photographers. You can also use it for portrait work.
This is a really good lens - some folk rate it as high as the Nikkor equivalent and I certainly have nothing to complain about. The autofocus is poor at macro range but experienced macro users will know that in reality autofocus is not practical for most macro work. Switch to manual and the good, broad focussing ring is easy and a pleasure to use. The autofocus is fine if you want to use the lens as a 105mm (or about 155mm equivalent on an APS-C sensor camera). At the price I paid on eBay this lens is an absolute bargain, excellent for real macro and a good addition to my range of primes for everyday use.
so easy to use and fantastic results .
