This pump did the job of removing old gearbox fluid and refilling from a Chrysler Grand Voyager auto box. The only problem was the hose supplied was too thick to pass into the sump but an adaption with a narrower tube solved the problem. Excellent product that does exactly what it says it will do very quickly. I extracted 3.5 litres in a few minutes.

Bought this item to pump paraffin from a tank where the location makes it impossible to siphon. It involves raising the liquid about three feet. Out of the box the item appears well made. In use, right from the start it was clear it wasn’t taking up anything like 500cc per cycle, more like 100 or 200. The pump was entraining a lot of bubbles into the liquid, it was almost like pumping foam. This was despite making sure the end of the inlet hose was well below the surface of the liquid in the tank. After the best part of two hours I’d only shifted 30 litres and gave up. On packing away I noticed that the union where the plastic inlet hose joins the pump body had worked loose and was spinning freely. It is probable this was admitting air and compromising the pump’s operation, suggesting the thing hadn’t been assembled properly. The union refuses to re-tighten. I’ve not investigated further at this point, but it may be possible to fix if I can get the body of the pump dismantled.Read full review

Instantly knew it couldn't handle the oil ,was sooo hard to bring back on the suck stroke, internals fell apart , was left holding a pump and 2 2ft lengths of tubes full of dirty oil. nightmate. Emptied pump refitted internals started again, verrrry sloooowly. Eventually got job done. Not recommended for thick oil I,d say, shame but, heyho

The check valves don't work. The diameter of the inlet and outlet ports are too small to allow the volume of oil to pass easily, ( I was using it to transfer EP 75 /80 gear oil. )

In theory it should be just the job. It is alright, if you plan ahead. Any kink in the feed pipe caused to much load on the diaphragm, resulting in leaks. Make sure you sort the pipe properly before you need to use it. Ideally, have someone else up high, doing the pumping, while you hold the feed and monitor the sump level. If you don't need to pump much, then a straight syringe might be better.
