A great Album from the 80's Slade. The opening 'Rock and Roll Preacher' kicks it all off with Nod's sermon 'To join this rock and this roll' This track was used by Slade in the 80's as a concert opener, complete with coloured glass lights and had the audience on it's feet from the word go.Another track 'A night to remember' was the lead in to Jim Lea's stunning bass and Violin solo, which became another concert hi-light with Don Powell's thunderous drumming.'M'hat,M'coat is a Dave Hill contribution. Sadly all too short.Dave was often asked if he regreted not writing more, but as he said 'Nod and Jim had the winning formula and it would be silly to mess with it.The album is not without it's duff tracks however.'Knuckle Sandwhich Nancy' was also a single.Written about Nod's fight with a bouncer after a concert in Wales. Manager at the time Chas Chandler never wanted it as a single but the band did.It flopped. It contains two other singles 'Ruby Red' about a girl who loves her food(?)and 'Lock up Your daughters' All in all a good album but it failed to do well in the charts. The album cover featuring an ear with a nail in it was criticised by the Deaf Society along with the album title. Some later copies featured just a picture of the band as opposed to the original 'ear' artwork. There was also another idea for the artwork which featured a backline(speakers and amps) exploding. To my knowledge this was never used. So a 7 out of 10 album this one rocks.Read full review
