For those of us who still love Mini-Disc, this is a great unit. It looks great in the dash, sounds wonderful with the Sony X-Plode technology and is brilliantly simple to use - totally intuative. Being a Sony, all the instruction books are easily available on line if you don't have one, but installation and use are so self-explanatory you almost don't need one. Of course the removable front is essential these days, and a useful feature on this unit. This, though, is my one small criticism, removal and re-fitting is a little fiddly at first - you do get used to it, and this is the same on most Sony units. I do love the fact that on this unit, unlike so many cheaper makes, you can keep it set to the Clock function all the time on the display if you wish, (as I do) really useful and well thought out. Best things for me have been the ease of installation - "plug and play" into most standard car harnesses AND it works with the steering remote on my Renault - again just plug it in, and it works - fantastic! For even more flexibility I have linked it to a Sony CD changer - again just plug and play with the correct cable, supplied with the changer. All in all, if you are looking for an in-car Mini Disc player/Tuner that now represents great value secondhand, give this one a go, assuming you buy a good one you won't be disappointed.Read full review
This is a capable and up-to-date minidisc player with support for MDLP and albums. It also has Xplod sound settings, an RDS tuner, and CD/MD changer controls enabling a variety of changers to be connected, including full support for MD3 tags if you have an MP3 changer. It is a value 2nd-hand buy only let down by some poor usability for infrequently used settings, and an upper-case only display. Basic usability, including disc and album changing, is very good indeed. Recommended as a budget buy, and in my opinion better than the more expensive MDX-F5800.
