This double live CD is a ‘must-have’ for anyone who remembers enjoying Stackridge in their youth. Many years ago Mr Mick Slater et al were put into a time capsule, and buried deep under Bath Spa. I would like to thank the person who released them and persuaded them to form what is, essentially, their own tribute band! The CDs contain live recordings of a concert in Bath on April Fools Day, 2007, a wonderful day that saw Mutter Slater perform live again with the collective creative musical genius of James Warren, Andrew Davis and Crun Walter. This is a delightful collection of 25 songs; old favourites, more recent compositions, and a couple of Korgis tunes that made the charts. It includes the first recording, by Stackridge, of Mutter’s classic song ‘Dancing on Air’. Yes, it is true that Stackridge music is puerile, silly, and nonsensical, but that is one reason for its inherent beauty and charm – its fun, its entertaining, its nostalgic, its very ‘West-Country’ and it is blissful escapism from the stresses of modern life. Highlights to cherish are the different vocal styles of James, Andy and Mutter; the virtuoso violin playing of award-winning Bath student Rachel Hall and the Pam Ayres impressions provided by Crun.......and 25 brilliant songs.....if you agree, buy the DVD! This CD is of a 2007 live concert that runs for about 2 hours. It features original members of the 1970s lineup (James Warren, Andy Davis, Mutter Slater and Crun Walter) who reformed to delight their legion of fans. There are 25 songs spanning their career - every one a gem. Even includes a couple of beautiful Korgis songs - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime and If I Had You. Highlights are too many to mention but my favourite songs include Slark, Road To Venezuela and the Volunteer. Closes with two catchy songs that will stay in your head for days - Do The Stanley (that always brings a smile to my face) and Dora The Female Explorer (guaranteed to cheer you up when feeling down). This 2 CD set is highly recommended - go on, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
