Back in the first half of the 1990's Take That ruled supreme, they were at the top of their tree and the nation loved them. Their sell out concerts were much applauded with their high octane dance rountines and theatrical set-pieces. Even the more hardened critics noticed the band's skill of high quality live vocals and dispelled any doubts that the latest "boy-band" phenomenon couldn't cut the mustard! Well over a decade later the reforming of Take That has, once again, gripped the nation. Tickets for The Ultimate Tour sold out in record time, this proving that without a doubt that the bands popularity had never really gone away. This was all well and good, the critics thought, but can 4 men who had spent the last 10 years in "pop wilderness" really reproduce the stage magic that entertained their fans all those years ago. After watching this DVD the answer is a resounding, YES! Not only that, I believe they have improved. The wisdom of age and a bit more life experience has made a huge difference. The marvellous sets that Take That were famed for are still here, with a troupe of talented dancers and the fantastic live band who have once again joined them on this tour. It's a real nostalgic journey for those who were fans from the jelly smothered "Do What You Like" days! And for those who perhaps were too young or just not into boy bands way back then, it's still an enjoyable treat. The boys (men) revel in taking the mickey out of the manufacturing of pop acts with their opening sequence, Band Manufacture Opener, before launching into Once You've Tasted Love. Gary still isn't the greatest dancer, bless him, but is probably one of the best British songwriters of all time. Often over-looked, maybe because he's never looked un-washed or appeared to be full of angst. Something which seems to be the preferable personality of a credible artist these days. Songs like Pray, A Million Love Songs and Back For Good have become classics in their own right and the crowd here in Manchester go wild for them. The gusto injected into the boy's tours of yesterday has not vanished. The concert runs smoothly from song to song at a fast pace, it's slick , polished and great fun. And for those who miss Mr Williams, Could It Be Magic is tear-jerking treat! The bonus features, although short, are still great fun proving that even after the break-up the guys still have a great rapport and are indeed slightly insane!! If you're a TT fan, then buy, if your not, just try it! Boybands are never naff when they're called Take That!Read full review
