Number 20 in this series about Stephanie Plum, the not entirely successful bounty hunter, and her wonderful sidekick Lola who is the kind of big personality you would hate to work with but who is hilarious to read about. Stephanie is still dithering between her two men - boyfriend Joe and fellow bounty hunter Ranger, both of whom attract her deeply - forming a backdrop to unlikely but eminently readable adventures trying to ensure that FTAs (Failed to Appear - in court that is) are - usually much against their will - taken back to have a new date for court appearance scheduled. Riding shotgun, only it's a Glock rather than a shotgun she packs in her handbag, is Lola a "larger lady" (Janet Evanovich's words, not mine) who has a tendency toward skin-tight luminous Lycra a couple of sizes too small, and who is always hungry. Stephanie is usually hungry too. Between them they are always on the lookout for a food stop, be it chicken from Cluck A Bucket or doughnuts from the Tasty Pastry. Highly readable as a one off, but even more enjoyable as the latest in the series. Do look out for these books, the first is One for the Money and they just get better and better. Takedown Twenty provided everything I expected from it - laugh out loud moments and an unlikely but very real scenario way outside my experience - and I'd recommend this as one of a series of light but hugely entertaining books.Read full review
