TANKS! is one of the very good series' that Pegasus have incorporated into The War File DVD Collection. I have collected several of the less professionally produced series' and found them substandard. TANKS! however, has run many times on Satellite TV and proved to be very popular. Using reasonable computer graphics instead of a small bunch of poorly-dressed reinactors is a winning formula, married with non-stuffy technical data on each of the featured armoured vehicles. Good naration and mostly relevant genuine footage cap off a very watchable set of programmes. The Fall of France covers the period 1939-40 'Blitzkrieg' era, charting the Armoured side of the story (Poland and France). Obviously the main focus is on the early war German tanks (PzI-IV and Czech 'T's'), their stats, tactics, formations etc. British and French tanks are covered more briefly (especially the French which was a little disappointing because that's why I bought it!). The story of the campaigns are well covered including a glimpse into the future ones. A very good DVD. One notable error was the inclusion of a marching line of American Infantry in early British pattern helmets narrated as the BEF. All war documentaries do it probably due to a lack of genuine footage. It is frustrating especially when leading military historians put their names to it (how embarrassing). Thanks for listening and enjoy your DVD.Read full review
