This book purports to be a simple guide to the practice of Daoism, its author states as his intent that he will not argue the scholarly rights and wrongs of translation and history but then he proceeds to do exactly that and he still does not actually address his subject matter. The book does not incorporate any information that is in any way useful to a lay person seeking information about Daoism; it is beset by continual doctoral level references to obscure texts and long since passed scholars. Its only achievement is in fact completely the opposite of its stated purpose and it is utterly devoid of understanding of its subject except as a narrative of the authors ego. Pros - very few except for references to obscure texts for future reference. Cons - No guidance toward practical everyday Daoism - No references toward practical sources of information - Not a useful narrative for beginners to Daoism nor as an explanation of what Daoism is or indeed isn'tRead full review
