Teachers is a prime example of how fantastic British writing can be when it hits it's peak. A perfectly balanced drama with a streak of strong, dark surreal comedy, it manages to be enthralling, heartwarming, hilarious and relentlessly miserable all at the same time. In the way only British TV can be, the characters are unhappy and unfulfilled and yet still likeable and immediately classic. What Teachers has over it's peers is the immediate familiarity we all have with the setting; we all went to school. We all had teachers like main man Simon (Andrew Lincoln), passionate and rebellious and most certainly not suited to teaching. We've all thought of our PE teacher like Brian, achedemically weak and only teaching PE because he can't do anything else. Like Kurt, IT guru and computer geek who'd rather be making games but could never be bothered to put the effort in. While they may sound like losers (and are losers) we can see ourselves in them. Guys who've fallen into teaching because it was easy, because it doesn't take a lot of effort. Whether that's true to life or not, it speaks volumes about how education is perceived by many in the UK and provides a backdrop for one of the most original sitcoms of recent years. Teachers is a great watch and a good laugh. I wanted to watch the second series right after finishing this one, the characters and plot so gripped me. Do yourself a favour and pick this gem up.Read full review
Great adult comedy about the lives of a group of teachers focusing on *Simon* a teacher who behaves pretty similar to the pupils. I could remember watching this on TV a good few years ago but could not remember a lot of it so i managed to purchase it from an ebay seller for £2, yes £2 for the the complete 2 disc, series 1. It has a lot of adult humour and bad langugae so i would wait til the kids are in bed til you watch it!! :) Very entertaining programme, each episode an hour long and features a young JAMES CORDON (GAVIN & STACEY, LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS & ALL ROUND COMEDIAN & FUNNY GUY) and also the actress who plays Dawn in Eastenders. I definetly recommend this!! Series 2 & 3 are also a must buy!!
I HAVE ALL THE TEACHERS DVD'S AND I AM SORRY THEY ARE NOT DOING ANY MORE, IT WAS THE BEST COMEDY I HAVE EVER WATCHED, THE MAIN CHARACTERS I LOVED AS BRIAN AND KURT THEY WORKED SO WELL TOGETHER AND SO FUNNY AND BOB WELL WHAT CAN YOU SAY HIS CHARACTER WAS SUPERB, THE STORIES THEY HAD WERE FANTASIC AND THEY COVERED A WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS BUT THE BEST FOR ME WAS WHEN KURT COULD NEVER GET A GIRLFRIEND AND HE WAS SO STUPID ABOUT HOW TO GET A GIRLFRIEND THE CHRISTMAS PARTY WAS THE BEST CLIP I HAVE SEEN, I RECCOMMEND TEACHERS FOR ANYONE THAT NEEDS A GOOD HARDY LAUGH, WHEN I WAS 8 MONTHS PREGNANT I WATCHED ONE SERIES AND CRIED WITH LAUGHTER I HAD TO PAUSE IT AS I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE GONE INTO LABOUR IF I HAD NOT CALMED DOWN, TRULY THE BEST SERIES EVER! THANK YOU TEACHERS FOR YOUR EXCELLANT WORK
goodHaving converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.
great british comedy set in bristol, based on a group of youngish teachers who find them selves not much higher in maturity status than the teenagers they teach. great comedy that will cheer you up
