having a lack of knowledge of american history does not stop thhis from being one of my favourite movies. sean penn plays a desperate man, shunned by society and held back from opening his own business he feels unable to understand the world, struggling with the acceptance of his wife leaving him he is thrown into a whirlwind of money problems, loneliness and a hatred for people who dictate to him what to do, amongst his "dictators" is president richard nixon.
Didn't expect that...I dont tend to watch 'Hollywood' films and much prefer UK and foreign films with more thought and a bit of an artistic touch. However this was good, a painful portrayal of an estranged father out of touch with the world, I felt sorry for the character at first, everyone was screwing him over but through Sean Penns excellent acting you start to see the depth of this figure, the denial, sickening endless apologising to his bored wife, his lack of imagination and motivation. He blames his own shortcomings on the world - not so much about Richard Nixon, more about an Alan Partridge style breakdown but without the laughs.
True story of a man whose life is on a downward spiral and decides that someone must be made to pay. He decides that President Nixon would fit the bill and plots to kill him. Powerful drama stars Sean Penn, Jack Thompson and Naomi Watts.
if you are interested in plotting and murder then this is for you it makes you think and keeps you right in the story excellent movie
