This book is great. Many people especially the USA make on the battle was a purely American battle. Far from it. In fact, yes the Americans had far more troops in the Ardennes than the British, but field Marshal Montgomery transported up to 90.000 British & Canadians to the Ardennes offensive. The American commanders were taken utterly by surprise by the German attack, doing nothing for a full three days. Montgomery saw the possibility of the German advance & mobilised troops to prime defensive positions, ready to counterattack. Some US battalions were actually saved by Montys excellent preparations. The reason for the cover up of British involvement in the bulge is the embarrassing 3 days to 'act' while American soldiers were being slaughtered, and monty coming to the rescue with amazing military tactics gained in El Alamein a great read.
