I've followed these boys since near the start and they just get better and better. You Cross My Path has been lauded everywhere as their best album yet and when I heard their new manager Alan McGee say this before I managed to download it from Xfm I thought "yeah yeah, heard it before. it will be good but maybe not great". I couldn't have been more wrong. You just MUST have this album in your collection and play it to death. It's all over much too soon at 36 minutes but it's a true great. Who needs 80 minutes of overblown hype (think Oasis' Be Here Now) when you can have 10 simply flawless songs which will knock you for six? The Charlatans never, ever disappoint but I guarantee you will love You Cross My Path. If you ever get a chance to see the boys live, go along and prepare to be rocked, moved and elated. They performed every last song from YCMP on the 2008 tour and no wonder - there is no filler material here whatsoever. Worth the price of a takeaway surely? Download it by all means, but this music deserves to be bought on CD or (even better) vinyl. Get The Misbegotten cd single and listen to the B side Blank Heart, Blank Mind.. This is so strong a track it's a travesty that it never made it onto the album.Read full review
This is the album from the charlatans that will hopefully make the critics eat thier words. Folling the success of the 'full album giveaway' via xfm they decided to release it on cd and 12", a decision that please me a lot. Buy the delux version as it has the fantastic 'acid in tea' as well as live versions ofe the great album tracks.
A return to form from this top band. Sounds a little like New Order with hooky baselines and their trademark keyboards. A bargain if you can get the 2 CD version. Buy this album...you will not be disappointed. Rik.
