This is a highly detailed and engrossing account of multiple tragedies on Everest by the foremost climber involved and debunks the erroneous version authored by John krakow in "Into thin air". A real revelation and great read!

Interesting perspective and great insight to the tragedy. If you've read "Into Thin Air" this is a must read. The book actually is only 250 or so pages with the rest being postscript and after thoughts...this part is a bit monotonous to be honest...but the book part is great.

Firstly - the book was cheap, in perfect condition, and arrived within 36 hours of ordering it. I bought it to get a balanced view of the events on Everest in 1996 when 12 people died. Jon Krakauer's book "Into Thin Air" described only his experience of that day, and he was extremely critical of one person who wasn't even on his expedition. Anatoli Boukreev was a guide on another expedition and got involved in rescuing people stranded from both his own team and Krakauers team even though no-one on Krakauers team made any effort to assist themselves. I couldn't understand why Krakauer was so damning of Boukreev so bought this book to satisfy myself. The Climb was completed post-humously by DeWalt as Boukreev was killed before it went to press. It is well written, objective, and draws on the input of most of those involved that day. I found it "un-put-downable" and read it in just two days. Unfortunately, it left me with more questions than answers. Particularly about what happened to the two oxygen cylinders that had been cached near the summit for use by Boukreev's team on their descent. Read this book after you've read "Into Thin Air" and then YOU decide who the real villain was... if indeed there was one.Read full review
I have been following the tragedy on Everest 96 (I am no mountaineer), I read Into ~Thin Air by Krakauer which is haunting. This gives another version of events. Would recommend both books
