Four years after the last album, the quartet of siblings present their latest project – and this time around, there is plenty for the pop fan and a little for the eclectic listener. Andrea Corr’s voice is consistently melodic, and her voice glides silkily over the songs. The tracks, too, are standard Corrs material. They are pleasant enough, and one or two memorable, and that is just about it. The lyrics, too, are nice, but never compelling. For something interesting, Borrowed Heaven’s title track guests Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and the a cappella Zulu group’s vocals lend a whole new dimension to the songs, giving it a vibrant feel and a lot more character. The sweetest track here, interestingly enough, is Silver Strand, a sweet and mournful instrumental piece that finishes off the album with a soft whisper. If you are looking for more Celtic touches in Borrowed Heaven, though, be prepared to be a little disappointed. There are a few Celtic fiddles in Long Night, but these (like how it is included in other areas) pretty much linger on the periphery and serve their purpose to gently enhance the instrumental effects. Overall, there is nothing new to expect from the siblings here, but if you are looking for seamless, easy-listening pop, it’s a great album.Read full review
