Neil Marshall brings us yet another great movie, this time firmly in the horror genre. Marshall's previous offering "Dog Soldiers" was both funny and had it's tongue firmly in its' cheek! This time with "The Descent", Marshall is firmly in horror teritorry and does it brilliantly. We follow a small groups of girlfriends as they embark on a caving expedition to help one their own get away from a terrible accident a little while ago. Set within the glorious backdrop of the Appalacian mountains, we feel every nerve shredding minute with the girls as they find out they are not alone under the vast cave network of the Appalacians. What follows is standard horror fare with the girls struggling for survival, however, Marshall demonstrates a great understanding of tension and audience exploitation as the movie progresses. If you liked "Dog Soldiers", then this will probably appeal also, but even for horror veterens, this is a delicious slice of dark terror! Recommended to all with a strong stomach and hard nerves!Read full review
