Got this CD album from Music Magpie. They're honest with the descriptions of their CDs and album cover conditions. The case was a bit cracked, but I accepted that as it was 2nd hand. Music Magpie is good for hard to find albums ad I recommend them.

Have you ever heard something so good it immediately feels like you've played and sung along to it a hundred times before. I came across this album on the web some time ago and after having the pleasure to listen to a few of the tracks needed to immediately add it to my collection. The album was a side project of those Swindon generals of pop XTC but has more in common with the psychadelic eras of the Beatles and Barrett-style Pink Floyd. This album is actually two EP's put together as one hence the extended running time. There are absolutely no fillers on it and if you like the music of that era I would suggest you rip someone's had off for it straight away as it is some of the best pop ever to come out of this country. A single was actually released called 'Mole from the ministry' which sounds as if the Beatles themselves wrote it a whole 20 years before the band existed. But this is far more than a clone of those times, taking influence from all the best music of that era, music that influenced XTC and creating something wonderful. I cannot praise the excellent work of messers Partridge and Moulding enough as this is an album any band (and that includes the Beatles) would wish they had written.Read full review
The Dukes of the Stratosphear was formed by members of the British band XTC during the mid 80's as a tribute to the early psychedelic bands such as "The small faces", "The Beatles" and "Pink Floyd". The band members included: Sir John Johns The Red curtain Lord Cornelious Plum (possibly a reference to the books of Michael Morcock) E.I.E.I. Owen The Band only made 2 albums : 25 o'clock (ep)1985 and psonic psunspot(full length album)1987 The compilation album,"Chips from the chocolate fireball" was both releases in one cd also released in 1987. This is an excellent album which I first encountered in 1987, during a great time in my youth. It brings back memories of parties on the beach and road trips through Germany. The best track for me is "Little Lighthouse" followed by "you're my drug" but "shiny cage" is also a cracker.I'm listening to the album as I write this and my mind drifts back to happy days of sun and sand, buy this album if you like happy neo-psychedelia it's a treasure waiting to be discovered. Enjoy! sings *she's a little lighthouse where she opens up her huge eyes and streams of diamonds shoot out till we're wading waist deep in her brilliance oooooooh*Read full review
This is not for the casual fan of XTC or original 60s psycehedelic rock, but it is both a brilliant satire and loving tribute by the former to the latter. XTC, one of the truly brilliant and under-appreciated British post-punk/modern rock groups of all time, used the pseudonym Dukes of Stratosphear on a series of psychedelic rock album that incorporated influences from the Beatles and the Byrds to Jefferson Airplane and the 13th Floor Elevators. The group's two mid-80s releases, "25 O'Clock," and "Psonic Psunspot," were a bit tongue-in-cheek but also showed a love of the "hippie" era by the members of XTC. It also allowed them a forum to showcase a brilliant new dimension to their collaboration together that was far away from the much more modern XTC material. "Chips from the Chocolate Fireball" combines both the earlier albums onto one release. It's a great way to get to know XTC a little better and gain a better appreciation of one of rock n' roll's most significant, rebellious eras. -DJMikeDeeRead full review
