Haruki Murakami is one of the, if not the best, writers in the world. Mr. Murakami manages to incorporate the world of anything is possible from the Japanese culture and meld it into the harshly meaningful Western society that many love to despise. The book, 'The Elephant Vanishes', strips the commonsence from the western world and exposes the truth behind our facade of a economy/society. It is made up of a handful of short stories written to in a style which meshes together surrealism and normality, focusing on painful issues involving loss, destruction, confusion and loneliness. I would recommend this book and any other books by this incredible author, especially 'Kafka on the Shore'. For someone to fully appreciate Haruki Murakami's work, one must completely let go of the world around them and just let the book engulf them into it's own realistic and perfectly created dimensional world.Read full review
