Glad I wasnt there.who needs the Russians to fight when you have Winter to kill you, have experienced minus 32 degrees myself once in St.Petersberg and without gunfire of any sort.this book tells you as others from Veterans how deadly life could be in the 1940s,although you cannot help but feel so sorry for those people who endured Hell to let down by there own who did not feed and care for injured, the Russians completed the task by doing terrible things to those they captured, they also killed 22,000 Polish Officers and others without coming clean about it in 1990 even if the World knew the truth before that....Wars ! Without which Humanity might get bored with themselves,my respect to Guy and his book .....Go buy a copy and see for your self "Pravda" amazing Book to read Dzienkuje Bardso.

One of the best autobiographies of war experiences I have ever read. This is an English translation of the original German memoirs of a man conscripted to fight on the Russian front. Cracking read if you like military stuff. The late politician Alan Clark referred to this book and the author in his 'Alan Clark Diaries' book. I couldn't put it down.
