I love how this author delves deeply into why babies cry, and how to fix it. Its as simple as that. I also love how she goes into colic and how to help with that too. Her science and pediatrician background also helps. I feel more empowered as a mother-to-be reading this.

This book presents some really interesting tactics for settling a fussy baby. Fundamentally Dr Karp's ideas are based on the principle that babies are born 4 months too early and that simulating uterus conditions for a 4 months period will settle a "colicky" baby. I was dubious but then several friends who have had babies confirmed that it worked for them. Just search for online videos of Dr Karp and the 5 S's (swaddle, shush, side, swing and suck) The book itself gets a bit repetitive at first and you feel like the author is really hammering home a message about how he came to his conclusions, but stick with the journey. The destination may just make the world of difference to your early home life with your new child.

If you’ve been following your instincts and getting it right so far. Nothing in this book tells you anything that you’ve not thought of; however it does re-assure you that your on the right path. Staying consistent etc. But for mums who are unsure and need a bit of guidance it is ok.
