A rather simplistic treatment of a very, very complex and bewildering period in modern Irish history. The effects of the entrenched attitudes that led to this conflict were still being felt in the Republic even into the 1960s - but the author avoided confronting the reader with these ramifications which only really faded with the demise of Devalera and his likeminded acolytes - surely the legacy of today was worth exploring? I speak not as an Irishman but as one who still has native family in the Republic, whose ancestors were active members of the IRA and as one who loves Ireland and all she stands for.
