I have read other novels by Tracy Chevalier, and enjoyed them all. She researches her books so well, so you get interesting and informative historical content. There's good characterisation as well, and the plot moves along at a good pace. I suppose that she is quite a traditional writer - this is not cutting edge post modern stuff [no wondering about what the heck is going on]. Instead you get a good story, very well written. She's a top notch writer.

A veri interesting account of a culture and customs of a land newly discovered. The dilemma faced by Honor with her Quaker heritage and beliefs and the impact of slavery made for a fascinating and compelling read.
