If like me you have a yearning for nostalgia and a distant memory of a wonderful comedian called Bob Hope whose films such as Paleface and On the Road to Morocco entertained you in your youth then I am sure like me you will be entertained by this one in which he plays The Lemon Drop Kid a con man who uses every trick to earn himself a buck but comes unstuck when his misguided racecourse tip leads a local mobster into missing out on a $10,000 win which he gives Bob Hope till Christmas to repay. The Lemon Drop Kid has to use all of his imagination, guile and charm if he is going to save his neck. The film is in black and white and was made in 1951 but the picture is as crisp as can be and the sound is also excellent and it is an enjoyable romp from the time when comedy was clean and warm. Watching Bob Hope again after all these years is like greeting a long lost and loved friend.Read full review
