Having just revisited John Altman's Film version of M*A*S*H, I decided to check out the long goodbye. I'm a bit of a Phillip Marlowe fan and as this one starred Elliot Gould (who also played Trapper in M*A*S*H) I figured it was worth a look. Not a bad version. Obviously a bit dated, but still reasonably well done, although I'm not sure it was best to base it in the LA burbs, but it was OK. The stoner girls who lived next door to Marlowe was a definate 70's thing and the villians were a little comic-book by today's standards, but the story had a nice little twist at the end and featured reasonable performances by all the cast. All in all, a nice little retro trip down a dusty amnesia lane. Worth a shot for a quid or two.
