A thought provoking easy read that made me really connect with the characters. Very sad at times but happy and funny as well. I read this after the Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (fantastic book too) and the two books go hand in hand. Highly recommended if you like true to life British stories that make you think about life.

A very unusual, humorous but moving story, mostly as if told by a terminally ill woman in a hospice. But you should read the same author's "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" about the same characters first (or possibly even instead - I found it the better book)

an excellent if heart-breaking story..you really must read it's companion book "The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry" and know the whole picture...and "Mrs Fry and the angel of the North" to complete the trilogy. Rachel Joyce is a wonderful writer, love all her books !

Having watched the film of "The unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry", read the novel and enjoyed both, I thought the view of the same events from the opposite end would be interesting. We learn of unrequited love, loyalty and betrayal. Heart-rendingly sad, yet uplifting.
