I read this with a very sceptical head. To start with anyway. But the more I read, the more things started to add up and make sense. I resisted – this was all unproven trendy nonsense, right? Wrong. I learned was that this is by no means a new practice and about the vast weight of evidence (empirical, not merely anecdotal) in support. I became a convert. Having now read over a dozen different publications (many wordier than this offering, which is no slouch itself) in my opinion this version has got to be considered the Bible of them! Although this health focussed lifestyle (I prefer that description to the word 'diet' as people then assume it's all about weight loss) has been around for decades, recent popularity has meant so much of the material now available is badly recycled half-information. Confusing if not downright dangerous. This book is the real deal. Detailed enough to really get to the roots of understanding what, how and why but written in a very easy, accessible format so the reader isn't completely drowned with the science of it. Excellent cleanse and transition sections to get things off to a solid start. Fabulous recipe section too, to continue the good work. Plenty of genuine examples of how this lifestyle has helped real people. Invest in this book as your foundation; armed with the excellent knowledge inside, you will far more easily be able to spot the fakers from the makers if you want to explore other materials and could save yourself a lot of wasted time and money. After suffering stomach issues for a couple of years I have scoured the Internet for information. I eventually found several books on acid and alkaline foods. I have been following the guidelines for several weeks and am beginning to notice a difference in my health. I no longer take any pills to sort out the high levels of stomach acid I produce but am trying to rectify it by eating a far greater range of alkaline foods. I hardly touch dairy and meat and am trying to eradicate as much sugar as possible from my diet. It does take a few weeks to settle into the routine and find recipes which are as tasty and satisfying as animal proteins but once you have a selection of the correct foods in stock it does get easier. I have less cravings, feel full the majority of time and find I only need smaller portions. Early days but positive start.Read full review
