Emotional rescue opens with in a sense a kind of warming up number in Dance (PT 1). The begining of this album reminds me of the anticipation of a hot party and the possibilities of what might ensue in the later hours (he he)! Send It To Me is a gem with a slight island feel and the subsequent track Let Me go seem to catch the party and the depravities at thier peak. Ahh, but decadence comes at a price and I see this in the soothing and steady Indian Girl a song of deep empathy, reflection and maybe a lil regret. The horns on this track harken a bygone era and you can feel the a soft pain in the lyrics "Life just goes on and on, getting harder and harder." This is music that has been truly lived, not contrived and the Stones wear thier hearts on thier sleeves. After the hangover-esque Down in The whole wraps up the album Emotional rescue tentatively grabs you from its throwback 54 sound. Emotional rescue is personal yet distant, very engaging and very funky. Jagger howling in the night accompanied by the horn is moving and dangerous. Shes So Cold a Stones staple is fun and bouncy hiding a seething, bubbling frustration under the surface. All About You is a reflective piece which closes out the album nicely. Throughout the album I felt like I was thier side my side with Mick and the boys on a raucous Saturday night and thier the morning after as well reeling, dizzied yet smiling!Read full review
I adored this album when it first came out.. I used to play it on a very regular basis in the 80's.. A decade I personally felt tended to leave the majority of real music behind... The title track is still one of my all time favourite Stones songs and is guaranteed to get me moving and a grooving... The Bill Wyman bass groove originally started with tracks such as 'Miss You' - peaked on this album.. From the first number 'Dance (Pt 1)', through 'Summer Romance', the delightful 'Send It To Me' and the romance of 'Indian Girl' it has some seriously strong tracks.. No Stones album would be complete without a Kieth Richards vocal number. 'All About You' is his moment of vocal glory on 'Emotional Rescue' - wonderful as always... The album managed to utterly bypass all the 80's excesses of synths and drum machines, and still fires on all cylinders as a hook laden, guitar driven, lyrically powerful slice of rock genius..
