I confess--this is the fourth copy I have bought! I read this story to my older children years ago, and bought a new copy when I realized my younger set had never heard it and we couldn't find our book. Then my oldest daughter had to have a copy of her own--and the fourth copy? You can get the first three books of the series in one! Why wouldn't I buy that? Four children abandon their worthless guardians and take care of themselves on a secluded island. Mike, Peggy, and Nora escape from their aunt and uncle who are rather sorry to have been left with the orphans. Jack, a boy who is older and wiser, takes leave of his drunken and rough grandfather to help the siblings. Since the children have been doing most of the work, anyway, taking care of only themselves is a relief. This is "My Side of the Mountain" and "The Boxcar Children", with Enid Blyton's enjoyable plot and satisfying resolution. My bookshelf will never be without this book. Two thumbs way, way up.Read full review
