Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland star in this tense political thriller about a hunt for a traitor within America’s Secret Service. Since its creation by Abraham Lincoln in 1865, the Secret Service has been tasked with defending the President of the United States and other leading public officials. Largely recruited from the top of their game in the CIA, FBI, Police or the military; Secret Service agents are trained to put their lives on the line to protect their subject and are the only government agency which draw their weapons with the intention of shooting people dead – all other law enforcement agencies are trained to draw their weapons to allow them to ask questions before opening fire. This is the most powerful agency in the United States that answers only to the President. Due to the rigorous testing involved in becoming a Secret Service agent, there has never been a case of a traitor in the Secret Service; at least, until now. Michael Douglas stars as Peter Garrison, a veteran Secret Service agent who has looked after numerous Presidents dating back to Reagan in 1980. In his current assignment, Garrison is tasked with defending the First Lady from attack. He is good at his job….too good in fact, as unforunately Garrison has fallen in love with his subject and the two of them are having a secret extra marital affair. 24 legend Kiefer Sutherland stars as Agent David Breckinridge, a dedicated investigative agent who tracks down on threats to the President’s life. He used to be friends with Garrison until he accused Garrison of having an affair with his wife. There has been tension between the two ever since. When an old informant from his investigative days contacts Agent Garrison and reveals a plot to assassinate the President of the United States originating within the Secret Service; Garrison returns to the office and Agent Breckinridge is brought in to investigate the threat. Lie Detector tests are ordered for all personnel and it is not long before Garrison finds himself at the centre of the Breckinridge’s investigation. Unable to convince his old friend of his innocence, Garrison goes on the run to find the traitor himself; but with the Secret Service closing in, will he have enough time to prove his innocence and save the President’s life? Both Kiefer Sutherland and Michael Douglas do the business in this film from actor / director Clark Johnson (SWAT); sharing the screen as dual leads for the very first time. A cross between 24 and The Fugitive, this is a tense thriller following Douglas’ race against time as he tries to prove his innocence before it is too late. Kiefer Sutherland shines as usual, pretty much reprising his Jack Baur persona for his role – but that’s cool, ‘cos Jack’s great. Overall a really interesting and compelling thriller – edge of your seat stuff. Add to your list now!Read full review
A very good thriller about a conspiracy to assassinate the American president. The plot twists and turns and the actors are well matched to their characters. The whole thing hangs together well and there is sufficient action to keep you interested. The story line is plausible and the script well written with little or no swearing. All in all a good evenings entertainment.
a clear to follow film which has you wondering throughout the film, there is a relationship between this film and in the line of fire in the secret service and assasination of the president.
