A passable thriller, overhyped on the Welles input, OK on direction, pretty hammy on his acting. a counter-lightweight to the ever-convincing Robinson. Film is in the Film-as-Pulpit genre : get your morality with your popcorn.
Well, DVD format is always an improvement, or so I thought. I have this movie on VHS and it is actually better than the DVD I bought quality wise. I thought that digital format would have cleaned up the fuzzy quality of this old movie but it hadn't. Still, nothing detracts from what a brilliant film it is. I was slightly disappointed that the cover on the box was not the same as the one advertised, still it was an okay purchase. I'm just wondering now whether there is a better quality DVD version out there somewhere.
I bought this film after watching Scarlett Street with Edward G and enjoyed it so much ilooked around for others and found this one. This was an entirely different Style but equally interesting.Edward G. plays a Nazi hunter sent to a small town to find a war criminal who has been living under an assumed name and has been accepted into the town and is planning to marry a local woman. How he Uncovers the nazi is riveting and the acting is excellent. Recommended.
Excellent film well worth the money ...........................................................................................................................................................
A 1946 production, a very good unpredictable storyline. Edward G Robinson gave a polished performance. Produced in Black & White, however, quite entertaining.
