I purchased one of these in order to copy old compact VHS tapes to DVD. The copying process is pretty straightforward and quality is perfectly acceptable given the comparatively low quality (to modern formats) of VHS. The only downsides are that you need to use the remote (make sure you have one) to control the copy process; you need to remember to finalise the DVD (it does not do this automatically until end of DVD is reached) and there is no S-Video output (either S-video DIN socket or via SCART) - SCART only supports Composite video and RGB. However, overall proved reliable and painless in copying a large number of VHS tapes and more reliable that Panasonic models I tried previously all of which broke down.

The quality of the dvd copied from,a vhs tape is better than the original tape in both picture and sound. For example the tape hiss from many vhs tapes is completely absent from the resulting dvd. This machine has many features and I am still at the exploration stage

I bought this solely to put all my very old home recorded VHS tapes onto a new format so I don't lose them over time. I think they have alreday lost some quality and it seems you shouldn't expect them to last more than ten years. For most of them this recorder does an excellent job, just a few setup buttons and you're away. For some I have problems it keeps stopping and saying they are copyright - of course they are not as they are home recordings and looking at the forums there doesn't seem to be a fix for that. It seems I may have to pay for those to be transferred. Overall a good product but just beware it won't do everything.
I have owned this same model for many years until it finally packed in, it is easy to use and the replay quality a great. so I was pleased to find that I could still purchase another unit so I purchased two.

i purchased the dvr20 dvd recorder because i am a pensioner and over the years i have a large selection of videos and i found the toshiba dvr perfect for trasfering all my videos on to dvds , what i liked about it best was the instructions was so easy to follow, at my age new gadgets scare me, the quality of sound and picture realy impressed me, not only for copying vcrs but also it is attached to my security cameras, im not very clever with modern equipment but i found the dvr20 well worth the price and so easy to handle, i use my pencam when out and about with my two little dogs on my disability scooter and its so easy to transfare my footage by just plugging it in the usb port. im pleased to say i have no dislikes at all and would recomend it to anyone as a well worth puchase, good value for the price.Read full review
