If you have a faulty keyboard and are thinking of replacing it, be warned that it is a complicated job for this laptop because the keyboard is secured with plastic rivets. Maybe the palmrest is also showing signs of wear? If so then buying this palmrest complete with keyboard will not only be simpler, but it will also enhance the appearance of your laptop.

Having had one of the plastic parts of the hinges break off on my laptop (seems to be a very common problem with this model) I looked around for a similar one for spares or repair thinking that I could replace the whole case but it would seem that most of them have the same problem or were in very tatty condition. I found this new replacement part by chance and have to say it is excellent. The quality is exceptional and my laptop now looks like new. Fitting it is fairly easy with the exception of removing the old touch pad plate which is glued on to the original. I found that it could be removed carefully with a flat knife and a bit of patience. Fitting it to the new one is easy as it just sticks onto the supplied adhesive strips. Really good replacement and saves discarding a perfectly good laptop. If you are buying this for the same reason as I did, make sure you give the hinges a good clean and lubrication whilst the laptop is in bits !!Read full review

A pukka Sony Vaio keyboard and definitely brand new, as advertised. Very easy to fit once I'd found the info on Google, though the connector is very fiddly and you need tweezers to insert it. There are 6 tiny Philips head screws to remove, so you also need a micro screwdriver. It seems impossible to find a UK keyboard, but this Italian version works fine, with all the letters and numbers as they should be, but several of the symbol keys are in a different place. This is not a problem as the laptop is set to the UK layout and responds to the key location, not what it says on that key! So if you're a touch typist you don't have a problem, but if not, you can either swap the old keys on the new keyboard, and hope not to break one, or buy a set of stick-on labels to the UK layout. Job done, and must remember not to spill coffee on the new keyboard!Read full review
