super, I'm very happy and my wife, that such a singer. thank you I will continue to watch this singer albums.
First of all I have to admit, I'm not a Tracy Chapman expert. Like many people I really recall her for the track "Fast car", which was one of the most unusual singles of its day. It launched Tracy Chapman in to the public arena in a big way. For most artists in this position they generally fail to live up to expectation. In Chapman's case she lived up to and excelled it. She has one of the most distinct voices ever. It can be harsh or low key but it undoubtedly is always Tracy Chapman. You couldn't mistake her vocal in amongst a thousand others. This, I believe, is her second album. The follow up to the "Tracy Chapman" launch album with the very catchy "Fast Car". "Crossroads" is pure Tracy Chapman stating her views on a number of issues. It has been described as her protest album, but I'm not sure I would agree with that as it is so much more. "Crossroads" is the opening track, not unsurprisingly of the "Crossroads" album and starts with the lines, "All you folks think you own my life, but you never made any sacrifice, Demons they are on my trail, I'm standing at the Crossroads of Hell". Also unsurprisingly Tracy also plays Acoustic guitar but that is all part of who Tracy Chapman is. The biggest 'protest' song on the album is the aptly titled "Freedom Now" about Nelson Mandella. I guess that is why it became thought of as a protest album. But when you listen to this track it is also about mankind and a lesson to be learned. Two great tracks "Be careful of my heart" and "A hundred years" are love songs or rather 'lost love' songs which are beautiful. I guess my favourite track is "All that you have is your soul" and closes the album. This is almost a life story and reminds the listener that you can't possess another person, or beat the system. To me, it says you have to strive to be the best that you can and with a little help you can lead a useful life and hopefully you will make your peace in Heaven. 10 tracks in all and worth every penny. Its easy listening if you want it to be or you can get really involved with the lyrics. It is up to you and the mood you are in. Love Tracy Chapman or not you can never ignore her. I highly rate this album.Read full review
