I spent a long time researching wheels and, for the money, this was the only wheel with any decent reviews. It's big enough for my female Syrian and sturdy as a stand-alone. I have 2 of these wheels and don't have either mounted on the bars as I think my bars are too flimsy for the weight! The first wheel developed a squeak after a few weeks which then became a very noisy rattle. Oil only helped a bit and I realised that something was needed to cushion the gap at the back if the wheel where it is attached to the stand. After a bit of experimentation, I wrapped a pipe cleaner round the metal shaft that the wheel sits on to stop the wheel rattling against the stand and it became almost silent again! So far wheel 2 has not needed this adaptation! I mention it as the biggest complaint in reviews about the wheel is that it becomes noisy and this us an easy fix! My Syrian spends at least 3 hrs on each wheel every night as I have one in her cage and another in a fish tank she goes out to play in -and they keep her sane. Prior to having the wheels she was hell-bent on escaping all the time! They are big enough to help avoid back problems -I have the 28cm one -but I did have to buy a bigger cage to accommodate it! my hamster loves it, its alot better for his back, down side it isn't as quiet as the last wheel it is quiet noisey and if your attaching it to your hamster cage be sure to use a wire to help keep it in place otherwise it slides down the cage. he now has the choice of two different size wheels in his cage to run his little heart out.

We bought the wheel as our hamster, despite having a good size cage, didn't seem to be getting enough exercise and seemed stressed. She has grown into quite a big Syrian so can no longer use the fly wheel we have, but she loves this Trixie wheel. Yes, it is big (we took the top level of the cage out to accommodate) but so worth it! Lots of quiet exercise with no back strain. Definitely recommended.
