Although it's got a camera, that camera's largely a joke. It'll never give you shots or footage you'll want to have posted on YTube except to illustrate the cam's low grade. Having said that, most everything else about this little X-frame drone is pretty positive. It appears able to shake off some pretty spectacular crashes, repeated and repeated as unskilled fingers try to master those two little joysticks. There's no fripperies with this one, only a simple basic drone - which forces you to learn how to control it instinctively - because with something as fast moving and sensitive to every air current it meets with, your reactions are all you'll have to keep it in the air more or less where you want it to be. Standard advice - don't begin by placing the pads of your two thumbs on the sticks' tops. Instead use a pinch-grip between the thumb and first finger to maneouvre the controls. There's no substitute for practice and all the YTube videos in the world won't teach your hands how to fly these little birds - only long repeated practice will do that. And lots of crashes... Choose your practice ground carefully - don't be near water, near trees or shrubs taller than you can reach. Or briar patches. Because all those things have a magnetism for all quads in novice hands. The wind is your enemy until you gain some basic skills - even then best to keep inside if it's blowy outside. You can fly this little thing inside with little risk to most anything - but use the prop guards if you do that. And no harm will be done by reading again the rules that apply to the use of all R/C models in the UK - steer clear of people, buildings. Never overfly built up areas no matter what nonsense you've seen online. Check to see what No Fly Zones might apply near you, and observe them - they're there to keep mostly aircraft safe but they also serve to keep drone users safe from accusations of flying irresponsibly - and that's what will see laws passed to limit their use. Having preached a bit back there, I have to add that these little things are incredible fun - giving smiles and laughs and sheer joy of flying a controlled device, since nearly none of us can afford a pilot's licence. This isnt' a bad substitute for that in a way, and it's affordable if your means are modest - as are mine Be warned too that this is likely to get a hold of you. Already my set of drones is three in number. If you do decide to get an X5, a decent second one would be an X8. Bigger and heavier, more powerful and less flighty. A bit more staid, maybe. For an older starter perhaps the bigger machine might be the better starter drone. There's a mode some of these have called "headless" mode. Take my advice and don't habitually use it - or else you'll never learn to fly skilfully. I'll not try to describe it here. The X8 that I have as my second machine does include it and I've found that the time spent on the smaller one has enabled me to develop some basic skills meaning that - at present - I don't need it. Useful maybe if things get out of shape badly and you need an emergency fail-safe? I recommend this little quadcopter without reserve. But as said above, be warned that if you like this one you'll find reasons to get more of them. And a fair way to justify that is to get the wife involved too, making it a family pastime; if she's willing. Good Luck!Read full review

This is a geuine syma x5c-1 not a knock off, before you buy one these drones it well worth checking the photos carefully as there are cheaper ones on ebay that claim to be x5c-1 s but are not and the quality is vastly different, as iv found with other syma models i have bought to my detriment . the genuine x5c-1s are in my opinion a good bit of kit and great fun to learn quad copter flying with. could with a bigger battery to offer more flying time but that is the only small bug bare i v got. .
