Barbecue Covers

Barbecue Covers

Barbecue covers are used to protect barbecues from the elements, keeping them dry which can help prevent rust from building up. They also provide protection from general wear and tear.

Covers are available in a variety of colours, sizes and materials.

Why use a barbecue cover?

For households which don’t have a lot of outdoor storage space, having a cover means the barbecue can be stored outside. The cover will give some degree of protection from the wind and rain, prolonging the life of the barbecue.

By covering a barbecue, it can also help to make the garden look tidier. The cover gives the barbecue a more uniform shape, which can help it better blend in with a garden’s design.

What colours are barbecue covers available in?

Generally, barbecue covers will come in darker or more natural colours so as to fit in better with typical garden colour schemes. The most common colours include:

  • Beige
  • Black
  • Green
  • Grey
  • Brown

However, it will also be possible to find barbecue covers in other shades, such as red, yellow, white, silver and even multi-coloured ones.

What materials are barbecue covers available in?

Generally, barbecue covers will come in one of four different materials. Some covers will be a combination of these materials, but the four main ones are:

  • PVC
  • Vinyl
  • Polyester
  • Polythene
  • Canvas

Each material will have its own benefits. Some will be lighter than others, but all covers will be waterproof and offer protection from the elements. Some barbecue covers include UV protection so will not deteriorate under direct sunlight.

How to maintain a barbecue cover

As barbecue covers are waterproof, it can mean moisture will build up under the cover, so it is important to air the barbecue on a regular basis.

Some covers come with air vents, which help prevent this situation from arising. It is also a good idea to wipe down the barbecue cover after bad weather so that standing water does not collect.

Many barbecue covers will come with their own storage bags, so can be tidied away when the barbecue is in use.
