It takes a little while to assemble - the instructions could be clearer - but this is a fascinating working model based on Theo Jansen's 'Strandbeest' (see videos on YouTube) which walks across a smooth surface when a breeze (or a hand-held fan!) blows on the propellor. The intricate way in which the camshaft makes six pairs of legs move, each moving at a slightly different time, is a joy to watch - assuming you like watching machinery! It took four adults to decipher the instructions and assemble the working model, despite the claim that this is suitable for an eight-year-old. It's not easy, though, to see how they could be written better: perhaps a little more explanation of how the 'beest' works, before diving into the step-by-step assembly instructions? Despite that, we love it...

I purchased this as a gift for my great nephew who has thoroughly enjoyed making it and has had a lot of fun playing with it. He now has it as an ornament in his bedroom and shows it to all his friends who xome for a sleepover. It is good value for money interesting and educational and was delivered on time.

Great fun for an older child or adult. Well made and clear instructions. Somewhat tricky to assemble but quite doable with patience. Needs quite a strong wind to work (or use a hairdryer on cool setting).
