This is a very nice ladder that does the job that it's meant to, but be warned, it is designed for a standard loft. If your loft is less than standard like mine then it can be a bit of a chore to get it to fit. My house is a new-build which has loft flooring approximately 300mm above the joists to allow plenty of insulation to be placed within the gap underneath. As such, if you secure the ladder to the loft flooring (as the joists are not accessible) then it doesn't reach the floor below! If you secure it to the hatch frame then not only will the hatch not shut but there is insufficient angle to get the ladder to lie down inside the loft due to it hitting the flooring above, as it also hits the other side of the loft hatch entrance in the process of trying to lie down. I had to build up the hatch frame by around 100mm just enough to allow the ladder to (a) reach the floor and (b) lie down inside the loft on top of the flooring. As it is, it still won't lie down properly, but is instead poised at an interesting angle! Sorry if this has bored or confused you, but I just thought I'd share it. By the way it took 5 hours to get it to fit. It works well though!Read full review

I'm afraid I should have paid more for a ladder, this is very flimsy & has already got a dent in it, I didn't realise until I removed all the packaging & that it is the wrong type, this is for a pull down hatch loft, I don't have one. I just wanted a normal 2 part loft ladder. After falling half out of the loft with a previous ladders, I want to feel safe, so unfortunately this is no good to me. I ahve a really solid 3 part ladder but I don't have the strength to open it, too heavy.

I am a great fan of Youngman step ladders. So when I saw their name on a loft ladder I bought it. I found it easy to fit. Having had it for a while the pole to hook it up/down has bent because it is awkward to put the ladder up into place. Prior to this in another house I had had an Abru ladder which was better all-round. Good points It locks down, It seem strong enough for the job. Bad Points. Awkward to put away, Flimsy pole bends easy.
