Il Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, inaugurated in 1880, is the Roman theater dedicated to symphonic opera and ballet. It is a non-profit institution with a mission encompassing the support of all aspects of music, the training and development of artistic and technical professionals and the musical education of its audience.
Considered one of the most prestigious cultural sites in Rome, many of the great artists who graced its stage include Maria Callas, Enrico Caruso, Pietro Mascagni, Riccardo Muti, Luciano Pavarotti, Giacomo Puccini, Ottorino Respighi and Igor Stravinskij. In 2022 Ai Weiwei, Chinese artist and activist, made his operatic directorial debut at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and created an edition of 600 umbrellas whose sales help support the institution. Every year the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, with a team of Italian and international artists, stages opera, ballet and concerts in Italy and worldwide.
