The Ferne Animal Sanctuary
Ferne Animal Sanctuary was founded by the Late Duchess of Hamilton at the onset of WWII to look after the pets of the many service men & women who went away to fight.
Today, Ferne provides care & refuge to a variety domestic or farm animals, working hard to re-home cats & dogs within a 40mile radius. Other animals remain at Ferne to enjoy the rest of their lives in the peace and tranquillity of the 80 acre Sanctuary, set in the Blackdown Hills of Somerset.

About us

Ferne was set up through the foresight of the late Nina, Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon – who realised that men and women going off to war had no-one to take care of their animals and so would require a temporary refuge for them.

The Duchess put a call out on the BBC and legend has it that when she returned to her London home there were a number of cats and dogs on her doorstep and also a parrot!

The need for our work continues to this day!

    Well packaged great item very pleased as item was glass they packaged in clothing items wish they had put a note in as I thought originally they had sent the wrong item, I sent a message to them but no reply it was a good idea as it’s an animal sanctuary so I guess the clothing they couldn’t sell more eco friendly than bubble wrap but like I said I wish they put a note in, I gave the clothing items to a local charity shop would recommend this seller

    Well packaged - Item as new as described - very satisfied with the purchase Not related to user: Royal Mail did not keep the 48hrs - in fact delivery first planned on Saturday but did not come, no message .Had to wait until Tuesday to know that delivery as planed on that day. Did not come either. Came today Wednesday: From the driver: he did not work yesterday so no delivery!!!!
