Hello, I'm sorry you have had trouble opening the game board. It does open. I recall it begin tight to open. I wonder if you sprayed some WD40 along the edge if it would be easier to open. If you are not happy, please feel free to return for a refund. I want to make sure you are happy. Just an fyi, I have a vintage Brio Wooden one coming avaialable and it includes the original wood marbles.
